ACADEMICS

ACADEMICS

In order to meet the academic needs of our students, the EBBS/MBBS Department has developed an Excellence Component (EC) for each class housed in the EBBS/MBBS department.  Please note they are not available in the General Education courses or core classes from other degree programs.

What is an Excellence Component (EC)?

  • The EC is an independent and voluntary assignment, designed by instructors to elevate the class curriculum to a higher level.

How does this work?

  • This is strictly voluntary.  Students may choose which, and how many, classes they want to participate in.

  • During the first week of class, students will notify the instructor of intent to complete an Excellence Component (EC).

  • The EC may be a project, paper, or activity.  Expect to spend a minimum of four hours outside of class fulfilling the requirements.

  • The EC is due by the last day of class and will be Pass/Fail, as determined by the instructor.

  • The instructor will notify the Excellence Program Committee of a Pass or Fail.

  • Excellence Committee will email the student a "receipt" any time an instructor notifies them of a pass or fail.

  • If the student has not heard from the Excellence Committee by week four of the following course, the student is recommended to reach out to the instructor for verification of receipt of their submission.

We strongly recommend that you start submitting components early in the program if you are striving for the Excellence Award – do not wait until your final semester.
